Safety and Security
In addition to Visitor Credential Requirements, please remember and follow these guidelines when visiting ATC. They put in place for your safety and ATC Operational Security.
ATC ranges can be dangerous, but safety is our top priority. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are written to minimize personnel exposure to risks associated with testing. SOPs apply to everyone on a test area and state specific requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, glasses, work gloves and hard hats. Check with your POC concerning the need and availability of PPE for entering ranges.
The ATC Test Officer is in charge of all aspects of testing conducted at ATC and is considered to be the direct representative of the ATC Commander. Access to the firing ranges is to be coordinated in advance with the ATC Test Officer in Charge.
All signs, barriers, or flashing lights must be obeyed. Most ranges have instructions for obtaining range clearances at the entrance. Follow instructions carefully for safe entrance and exit. If access is required into a test are and the Test Officer cannot be contacted, call the ATC’s Range Operations at 410-278-2215, or ATC’s Safety Office at 410-278-3898.
Do not enter a firing range without notifying both the Test Officer in charge and Range Operations. Once at the test stie, for your own safety, do not enter areas away from regularly traveled throughfares and areas such as woods and fields. Remember, when your program is firing, the Test Officer must know where you are at all times.
Use extra caution while driving in the Industrial Area. Watch for the many military vehicles using the same roads and watch for wildlife which may stray onto the road. No privately owned vehicles or rental vehicles are permitted on the test courses. Designated parking areas are available at test sites.
Visitors must have medical clearances on file to visit certain areas requiring respirator and environmental chambers. Your ATC point of contact will determine which PPE or medial clearances, if any, are required for your visit. In general, visitors must provide their own safety gear.
When entering or leaving a test site at the Munson, Perryman, or Churchville Test Areas or any maintenance facility, visitors must inform the area’s visitor center or supervisor of their departure.
Access to the restricted area is a privilege afforded by the ATC Commander. All vehicles entering and leaving the restricted area are subject to search for prohibited items, which include weapons, ammunition, drugs, alcoholic beverages, photographic equipment and recording devices. These items will be confiscated and violations cited by the U.S. Army Garrison APG (USAAPG) Police.
All recording devices (stand alone or cell phone cameras) are prohibited in the restricted area unless approved by the ATC security office. Smoking and vaping is permitted only in designated areas. Dispose of cigarettes, tobacco or matches in approved containers. Please remember that the APG is a military installation, controlled and operated by trained government personnel.
We want your visit to be productive, pleasant, and most importantly, safe. Please notify your POC or the security office of any problems or questions. You may call 410-278-9956 to contact the visitor control office, or your ATC POC.
